Should I come in for therapy?

It is not easy to decide to come to therapy and it is normal to feel some anxiety.  You may feel that your problem is too big or too small to address in therapy.  I strive to provide a comfortable and relaxed setting so that you may talk freely and begin to feel better.  I encourage you to express your concerns about therapy and to ask questions about how it can help you as well as about my credentials or clinical experience. I offer a free telephone screening to help you decide if you would like to meet in person.      

What about medication vs. psychotherapy?  

Medication can be useful for some people, particularly in addressing symptoms of anxiety and depression.  However, research has consistently shown the best outcomes for medication when it is combined with psychotherapy.  If you and I determine that medication might be a helpful addition to therapy, I will assist you in finding the right person to prescribe for you. 

 Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Confidentiality is guaranteed by law to any client over 18.   Exceptions exist to protect life or safety, and I will inform you of the details of these rules when we meet.  I encourage clients to bring up any questions about confidentiality.
